Google is looking into location-based advertising with a mobile banner that shows nearby services. An offshoot of the AdWords' location extensions, it will let local advertisers attach their phone numbers and business location on an expandable map; advertisers will be charged when users click on the link.
Locations will be determined by nearby WiFi networks and the IP address. "We try to do our best to get the location as good as possible," said Surojit Chatterjee, senior product manager for mobile ads at Google. "We're trying to infer it from indirect means as best we can."
